The 26 year old was used as a wing-back under former head coach Ruben Amorim, slotting in on both flanks when required. He has reverted to his right-back position with ease since Carrick’s arrival last month, and his versatility has been one of his biggest assets. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person stated that Bayern were among the clubs keeping a close watch on Dalot in January. A wanted man in Europe The Bavarians were looking for a new right-back amid the injuries to Josip Stanisic and Konrad Laimer, and Dalot was identified as an option for the role. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were also named as possible destinations for the Portuguese. It was later suggested that Los Blancos and Bayern Munich had established contact with the player’s camp to facilitate a deal. However, that report added that Dalot had turned down both clubs as he wanted to stay at the Theatre of Dreams. Bundesliga expert Christian Falk has now provided a clarification regarding the Bavarians’ pursuit of the Portuguese full-back. Bayern not considering Dalot Speaking to FC Bayern Insider, Falk stated that Bayern do not have the funds to complete a move for Dalot. He said: “It is NOT TRUE: Bayern Munich are interested in Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot.” “Bayern have a list with many, many players on it. Of course, they know the player, but at the moment, they don’t have the money for such a move. They have a clear plan for the defence, and they are searching additionally for offensive options.” “The biggest fee will go to the offensive line – they’re searching for a player behind Luis Diaz. Every other target is parked in the back until they know what they’re going to do with the position.” Dalot is under contract with United until 2028 and has registered 10 goals and 19 assists in 234 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils to date. Final Thoughts Dalot is now United’s second-longest-serving player behind Luke Shaw, and his knowledge of the club could be pivotal as they prepare for a fresh start next season. However, the final decision regarding his future may rest in the hands of the incoming permanent manager, who is expected to take charge in the summer.
