Manchester United Women eventually found a way past rivals Liverpool at the Progress with Unity Stadium. Story of the match Lisa Naalsund smashed in the opener before Alice Bergstrom bundled in an equaliser. The Norwegian midfielder grabbed her second minutes later, before Fridolina Rolfo made sure of the points by finishing off a fine move. United won the match 3-1 and rose to second in the table. Naalsund comments Speaking after the game, Naalsund was asked about her feelings on the match and was understandably delighted with her own and the team’s performance. Commenting to the club’s website, she claimed, “yeah, I am very happy with that. We need to get all the wins for the rest of the season so this is a good start.” The midfielder has been used in a variety of positions by head coach Marc Skinner during her time in Manchester, and she was asked if she saw herself as more of an offensive or defensive player. Her two goals yesterday might suggest she has stronger attacking instincts, but Naalsund is not so sure. She explained, “I’ve done it in the past (playing more offensively) but I would say that I have offensive and defensive qualities. I’m happy both ways.” Elisabeth Terland connection Playing in an advanced number ten position, Naalsund found herself almost right beside her international teammate Terland at times. Speaking on their on-field connection, she explained, “yeah, we do. We know each other quite well and also we work hard, so it is good to work with her.” Finally, she was asked to give her thoughts on Liverpool, who are currently bottom of the Women’s Super League table. She suggested this will not be for long, though, as she was impressed with how they handled themselves yesterday. Naalsund explained, “I would say it is a new Liverpool this half of the season. They’ve made some good signings and they are really looking good now and they were very tricky to play against. So it was good to get the win today.” Naalsund at the double! ✌️⚽️ pic.twitter.com/zebwVFbYxH — Manchester United Women (@ManUtdWomen) February 1, 2026 Lisa Naalsund stats vs Liverpool StatisticValue Goals2 Assists0 Key passes2 Crosses (accurate)0 (0) Accurate passes19/29 (66%) Passes in opposition half (acc.)15/25 (60%) Passes in own half (acc.)4/4 (100%) Total shots2 Shots on target2 Shots blocked0 Touches40 Unsuccessful touches2 Dribbles (successful)1 (1) Possession lost14 Total carrying distance76.2 m Carries13 Total progression4.6 m Defensive contributions2 Tackles (won)2 (0) Interceptions0 Clearances0 Blocked shots0 Recoveries5 Ground duels (won)3 (3) Aerial duels (won)3 (2) Dribbled past0 Source: Sofascore United will next be in action on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to play Leicester City.
