Zirkzee excited to work under CarrickSunday 01 February 2026 09:39Joshua Zirkzee is keen to prove his fitness and excited to work under Michael Carrick and the new coaching team at Manchester United.The forward has missed the big wins over Manchester City and Arsenal due to injury but returned to training this week. He is now hoping to be available again soon, with Sunday’s Premier League clash against Fulham next on the agenda. In last season’s home game with the Cottagers, the Dutchman came off the bench to mark his debut with a late winner.”I’m feeling good,” he told club media, when we asked about his fitness. “I should be back very soon. It’s always frustrating [to get injured] but it is what it is and you can’t change anything about it. “So you just have to keep moving forward and that is what I am doing now.”The prospect of getting acquainted with Carrick on the training ground was one that enthused the 24-year-old, who has shared celebratory comments on his social media channels when watching both recent victories under our former midfielder. “Yeah, I can’t wait,” he said. “Especially after, you know, seeing the game against City, seeing the guys play the way they did, it just makes you want to be on the pitch and just help the team. “So I’m looking very forward to being back with the guys.”In terms of the derby display, Zirkzee pinpointed what pleased him most, while appreciating it was a team effort that thrilled everybody associated with the club. “I enjoyed the performance a lot,” he said. “I’m sure I’m not the only one. “It was the small moments. I don’t know, we just looked very hungry. “Attacking, defending, everything was just there for us.
