One of Europe’s biggest clubs “seriously considering” hiring former United manager – report

On Wednesday, former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho returned to haunt Real Madrid, orchestrating a dramatic 4-2 win with Benfica in the Champions League. Due to Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin’s stoppage-time goal, Real dropped out of the top eight automatic qualifying places and will now face Benfica again in the knockout playoff round. The manner in which Los Blancos’ resistance collapsed in Lisbon has sent shockwaves through the Spanish capital, raising question marks over Alvaro Arbeloa’s ability to steer the ship effectively. Jose Mourinho on Real Madrid’s radar According to Fichajes, discussions over the managerial position at Real Madrid have “accelerated” after their Champions League setback, and the club’s hierarchy are “seriously considering” the possibility of re-hiring Jose Mourinho. It is understood the Spanish giants believe “The Special One” still has the character and competitive spirit to lead their dressing room, which spiralled out of control under Xabi Alonso. The ex-United boss Mourinho knows how to handle the pressure that comes with managing Europe’s biggest clubs.  However, it is suggested that Mourinho is happy at Benfica and Real would have to effectively roll out the red carpet to lure the Portuguese genius to Madrid. The 63-year-old would not engage in any negotiations if he is not offered “real power” to make sweeping changes.  Real Madrid want to sign Manchester United defender Real’s desperation to save their season has reportedly also led them to United. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the La Liga side are keen on signing United full-back Diogo Dalot. It is thought that a “convincing offer in the last days of January could open the door to negotiations.” Interestingly, it was Mourinho who sanctioned Dalot’s arrival from FC Porto in 2018.
