Man United ‘Lead The Race’ Over Chelsea To Sign £35m Striker Amid Al-Hilal Bid

BACK Dylan Oakley Jan 26th 2026 Man United are reportedly leading the race to sign a Ligue 1 striker, who has been subject to a bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.  The Red Devils are riding a wave at the moment. They managed to beat rivals Man City before beating league leaders Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates, in what was the Gunners’ first home defeat of the season. Michael Carrick has already won over the United fans, and he’s only been in charge for two matches, with his next coming against Fulham next weekend. However, Carrick is yet to see any January signings for Man United, and the Red Devils have just one week left to make any additions, so could we see an incoming before the February 2 deadline? Man United ‘leading the race’ for Kader Meite French 18-year-old striker Kader Meite has generated a strong reputation in France for being somewhat of a wonderkid. He plays for Rennes, and has attracted the attention of both Man United, and rivals Chelsea. According to 3AddedMinutes, Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal made a £35m bid to sign Meite, and the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all been mentioned as suitors. However, it is understood that Man United are currently the front-runners to sign the 18-year-old, ahead of rivals Chelsea. Despite being only 18, Meite has already risen to become part of Rennes’ first team. He’s made 32 appearances so far, scoring five goals, and providing two assists. Meite really shined at U19s level too, as he scored 14 goals in 32 games for Rennes’ team. If United were able to land the pacey 18-year-old, it would give Carrick something different at the striker spot, as Benjamin Sesko, is more of a taller number nine. Meite could run in behind high-pressing defences which could become very useful when playing against the likes of Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa.
