“I hope more”: Electric United Women signing makes exciting prediction fans will love

Manchester United Women have had a very busy January transfer window. Marc Skinner’s side have brought in the talented Swedish duo Hanna Lundkvist and Ellen Wangerheim. They have also signed German forward Lea Schuller. The former Bayern Munich star has already opened her account for the Red Devils in their 5-0 win over Burnley in the FA Cup last weekend. Lea Schuller interview Ahead of United’s game against Aston Villa this weekend, Sky Sports sat down with Schuller to discuss her move to England. Commenting on her move so far, she stated, “yeah, very well. I mean, I’ve been here for almost one week now and I’ve really enjoyed it. I think I had four or five sunny days, which was quite nice. I’m very happy to be here.” When pressed on why she decided to leave Germany, she revealed that after 13 years split between Essen and Bayern Munich, she fancied something different. She stated, “I needed a change. I was quite a long time in Munich and it was a great time, but in the end I think the system there was great, just maybe not so fitting for me anymore. So I think now was the right time to change something.” Schuller also claimed that she has settled really well into the club so far and that she already does not feel like she is new to everything. Best League When asked about why she decided to join the Women’s Super League, she retorted, “in the beginning I didn’t know so much about the English league, but over the last years it’s grown more and more. Obviously the English league is the best in the world at the moment. I was very happy that United asked for me, and the first talks were very good. I started to watch the games and I felt the system they play fits me very well. That’s why I said this could be good for me.” She also claimed that she is “a very direct player. I prefer one touch. The best for me is being in the box, getting crosses or passes and shooting or heading directly. I’m very direct and fast.” She believes this will help her fit seamlessly into the club’s style of play off the bat. Relationship with Skinner When asked about her working relationship with the head coach, she replied, “he’s very nice, but I’ve only been here five days and when we split into attacking and defending groups, he was mostly with the defending team, so we haven’t spoken that much yet.” 100 goals Finally, she was asked about what her targets were after scoring over 100 goals for Bayern Munich. When asked to comment on what she wants to achieve in Manchester, she said, “I hope more than 100. I don’t know — numbers are numbers. But of course I hope I can improve even more and be better here than I was in Munich.” She also added that the competitiveness of the league and United’s presence in the knockout phases of the Champions League were further pull factors for her to come to England. United Women will take on Aston Villa later today at 11:55 GMT.
