Official: United Women award winner joins Palace until the end of the season on loan

Manchester United Women have had an incredibly busy winter window. Ins and outs Marc Skinner’s side have significantly bolstered their first team squad with the additions of Lea Schuller and Swedish stars Ellen Wangerheim and Hanna Lundkvist. They have also sent Hannah Blundell out on loan to Everton Women for the remainder of the season. Rachel Williams and Geyse have also left the squad permanently with transfers to Leicester City and Club America. Keira Barry and Evie Rabjohn have also been recalled from Sunderland in a winter shake-up. Emma Watson was also recalled from her loan spell at Crystal Palace. Lucy Newell The young defender was also recalled from her spell at Birmingham City, but she has now been sent out to Crystal Palace on loan. The club’s official website reports, “Lucy Newell has agreed to join Crystal Palace on loan for the remainder of this season.” The article goes on to state that, “it is the 19-year-old defender’s second loan move of 2025/26, as she spent the first part of the campaign with Birmingham City.” Newell won the Women’s Academy Player of the Year award in 2024 but has so far failed to represent United’s senior side. 🤝 Young defender Lucy Newell will spend the remainder of 2025/26 on loan at Crystal Palace. The Eagles stated on their club site, “Crystal Palace Women are pleased to announce the arrival of Lucy Newell on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.” Commenting on the move, manager Jo Potter said, “We are delighted to have Lucy join us at Palace. She is a promising talent who has already gained some good experience at club and international level.” Newell was also naturally pleased with the move and told the club site that, “I’m really excited to be here.
