Loan news: Newell joins Palace

byCommunications DepartmentFriday 23 January 2026 18:00Lucy Newell has agreed to join Crystal Palace on loan for the remainder of this season.It is the 19-year-old defender’s second loan move of 2025/26, as she spent the first part of the campaign with Birmingham City. Newell made four appearances for Blues, who are currently second place in the second tier, behind Charlton Athletic.The teenager will now represent the Eagles in the same division. Palace are fifth, three points behind Birmingham, and have just signed former United midfielder Hayley Ladd, after having Emma Watson on their books, on loan, until earlier this month.Newell won our Women’s Academy Players’ Player of the Year for 2023/24 and signed her first professional contract with the club in October 2024, on her 18th birthday.
