Man Utd plotting double January swoop as two reinforcements identified

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick could welcome in two new players in January, as INEOS identify two roles that should be bolstered.Following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, the landscape has drastically changed at Carrington, especially with Carrick distancing himself from the Portuguese’s much-maligned 3-4-2-1 formation and adopting a 4-2-3-1 system. This tactical switch saw several players changing their roles. For instance, Bruno Fernandes, who operated in a deeper role under his compatriot, returned to his original position as an attacking midfielder. Moreover, Carrick deployed Bryan Mbeumo as a striker on his memorable managerial debut against Manchester City, dropping Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha to the bench. Therefore, these tweaks could prompt the management to take action in the market to ensure they have enough depth to cover every role.Man United eyeing a new midfielder & left wingerEven prior to the start of January, Man Utd have been tipped to sign a new midfielder. But according to the Daily Mail journalists Chris Wheeler and Nathan Salt, the Red Devils could also pursue a left winger this month. (Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)In recent weeks, United have been linked with several midfielder, including former Premier League star, Ruben Neves, whose contract with Al-Hilal expires in June, and AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Nonetheless, the source insists that neither player is likely to arrive in Carrington in January. Why Man United won’t splash the cash in JanuaryWheeler and Salt reveal that INEOS prefer to sign a new midfielder on loan until the end of the season, as they aren’t keen to spend cash on a player who isn’t considered a primary target. The Red Devils would prefer to preserve their resources until the summer, when their long-time targets (Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson) will become available, albeit at hefty prices. On the other hand, United haven’t been strongly linked with a new winger since missing out on Antoine Semenyo, who ended up joining their rivals, Man City.MUFC officials reportedly held talks with Karim Adeyemi’s representatives. The German is said to be hellbent on leaving Borussia Dortmund, but his departure is more likely to materialise in the summer. In the meantime, Carrick should have enough options at his disposal on the left flank, but it remains to be seen if he prefers an inverted winger like Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount or a classic winger like Patrick Dorgu, who produced the goods while interpreting this role in the Derby.
