United plot €60m raid for “dynamic” Bundesliga maestro, it will leave Spurs’ transfer plan in ruins – report

Manchester United have invested wisely in the squad following INEOS’ arrival at the Theatre of Dreams. The Red Devils focused on the backline in the summer of 2024, signing Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Leny Yoro, while Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu arrived in the middle of last season. Last summer, the focus was on improving United’s faltering frontline, which had scored just 44 goals in 38 league games in the 2024/25 campaign. Subsequently, the Premier League giants invested over £200 million in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, while also strengthening their goalkeeping department by signing Senne Lammens. The attention, now, is on midfield, which has emerged as a weak point in the squad, especially since Casemiro is entering his twilight years and is out of contract at the end of this season. With Manuel Ugarte dividing opinion among fans and pundits, the Red Devils are reportedly looking for a combative midfielder to take the Brazilian’s place. United were linked with Nmecha last summer United were reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha before the start of the season, but the move never materialised. The German, meanwhile, has gone from strength to strength this season, registering 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and setting up three more. The 25 year old is an all-round midfielder who stands out for his technical expertise and intelligence. Naturally a central midfielder, Nmecha is capable of operating in a box-to-box role and does not shy away from defensive responsibilities. His efforts have already endeared him to several clubs across Europe, including United. The Red Devils reportedly have their eyes on Premier League-proven names like Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson, but they are likely to cost more than £100 million. INEOS could be tempted to consider alternatives for the job like Nmecha, but it now appears that prising him away from Signal Iduna Park will not be cheap either. Dortmund want €60m for Nmecha According to Bild, as cited by Sport Witness, Dortmund are unlikely to let the player leave for less than €60 million this year. Nmecha is under contract with the Bundesliga giants until 2028 and is a key figure in Niko Kovac’s set-up. Dortmund, as such, hold the upper hand in negotiations and are not planning to let him go. However, they could struggle to retain their prized asset if he continues his upward trajectory. The report confirms interest from United and also names Tottenham Hotspur as one of the player’s suitors. Spurs got a closer look at their target in Tuesday’s 2-0 win over the German club, with Nmecha starting the game and playing 67 minutes. The north London club is reportedly pleased with his efforts and is ready to step up their pursuit of the player. However, the German’s suitors will have to match Dortmund’s asking price if they wish to prise him away. Final Thoughts Nmecha rose through the ranks at Manchester City but failed to break into the senior side. As such, he could be motivated to prove himself at the red half of the city. However, the German is unlikely to be at the top of United’s wish list for 2026, especially since they are expected to prioritise moves for players with Premier League experience like Baleba and Anderson.
