United in contact with 29-yo England star over shock January loan deal, Tuchel is his massive fan – report

Manchester United’s midfield issues are plain for all to see, but their preferred targets, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson, are all out of reach as far as the winter transfer window is concerned. United intend to back interim head coach Michael Carrick, and should the Englishman demand a new midfielder, INEOS would be forced to explore cheaper alternatives this month. Ruben Neves is believed to be a target, with his Al-Hilal contract due to expire in the summer. However, he currently earns as much as £410,000 a week and might not accept a massive pay cut to seal a move to Old Trafford. Manchester United offered chance to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek According to Teamtalk, Manchester United have been offered an opportunity to sign AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The former Chelsea wonderkid is keen to return to the Premier League, having found consistent minutes hard to come by under Massimiliano Allegri this season. As such, seven clubs have been alerted to his availability. The report states that “Aston Villa, Manchester United, Newcastle, Brentford, Everton, Sunderland and former club Fulham have been made aware of his potential availability” by intermediaries. The 29-year-old England international, who joined the Serie A giants in a deal worth £15 million plus add-ons in 2023, is open to taking on a new challenge. It is added that Milan would be willing to let Loftus-Cheek leave on loan with an option to buy. It is added: “United’s desire to sign a new centre-mid is well-known, and Loftus-Cheek could reunite with another former Chelsea teammate, Mason Mount.” Mason Mount facing uncertain future at Manchester United Interestingly, in December, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are open to listening to offers for Mason Mount. The ex-Chelsea star has struggled for consistency and fitness since moving to Manchester from London in 2023. Mount was expected to thrive as a wide playmaker under Ruben Amorim. With Carrick expected to switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation, Mount may find it even more difficult to impress at Old Trafford. United are currently crying out for an athletic midfielder. In that regard, Loftus-Cheek, who is highly rated by Thomas Tuchel, might prove to be an effective short-term solution.
