Manchester United finally picked Michael Carrick over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the head coach position till the end of the season. With Darren Fletcher out of the race, it was previously thought that INEOS would try to get the duo to work in tandem, as they did a few years ago. However, that did not prove to be the case as the co-owners went about interviewing them separately. In the end, due to the input of a few senior stars and the complications regarding appointing the backroom staff for the Norwegian, it was the Englishman who won the race.
