West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the managerial appointment of former Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay. Ramsay lands new role A report covered by The Peoples Person earlier this month relayed that Ramsay was in talks with Brentford over the possibility of replacing Ryan Mason, who was sacked after a string of poor performances and results. Now, the Baggies have confirmed that Ramsay has officially taken charge of the side. Ramsay has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal with West Brom. He will be joined in the dugout by his right-hand man at Minnesota United, Dennis Lawrence. West Brom chairman Shilen Patel said about Ramsay, “Throughout our recruitment process, Eric consistently exhibited the qualities to lead and succeed in the world’s most demanding football environment.” “In his time as a Head Coach, his teams have been characterised by intensity, organisation, and adaptability – all critical for the sustained success and growth that we envision in the short and long term.” “Eric impressed us as a person, a coach, and a fit for our squad. I am pleased to welcome him to The Albion as we work with purpose to seize the opportunities and confront the challenges before us.” Ramsay boasts significant experience Despite being just 34, Ramsay already has plenty of experience in coaching and management. The Welshman joined United in July 2021, leaving his role in Chelsea’s academy to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom staff at Old Trafford. A highly-rated tactician, Ramsay also had spells at Swansea, Shrewsbury and the Wales national team. He parted ways with United in March 2024 to become the boss of Major League Soccer outfit Minnesota United. Under his leadership, Minnesota went to the play-offs. He enjoyed some fantastic moments with the club, including beating Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami 4-1 last May. He helped the Red Devils win the EFL Cup in 2023 and reach the final of the FA Cup, where they lost to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Ramsay’s first assignment will see him and West Brom come up against Middlesbrough on Friday evening. The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
