“In the next 48 hours”: Fans can expect exciting announcement from United regarding the vacant managerial post

Manchester United will begin their FA Cup campaign with a home tie against fellow Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday. Darren Fletcher will continue to lead the team following Ruben Amorim’s sack. Fans noted improvements against Burnley, and the former midfielder will have the chance to impress the INEOS hierarchy further at Old Trafford. A win, coupled with a decent display and academy involvement could see the Scotsman further cement his credentials for the caretaker position until the end of the season. Contenders for the post As of now, former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his assistant Michael Carrick are the leading contenders. INEOS have spoken to both United legends with a face-to-face meeting with the Norwegian taking place at Carrington on Saturday. Now, as per Teamtalk, Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox could formally announce their decision as early as within the next 48 hours. “In the aftermath of Amorim’s sacking, Solskjaer, Carrick, Fletcher and Ruud van Nistelrooy were under consideration for a temporary stint in charge through to the end of the current campaign. Timeline set “And with director of football Jason Wilcox assessing the options, and having already had contact with Solskjaer and Carrick, the club will now choose between the pair, with further talks scheduled to take place this weekend. “It is believed a decision will likely be reached imminently, with an announcement expected from the club early next week and potentially within the next 48 hours.” Carrick’s work, both at Middlesbrough and during his brief interim spell at United, has earned him admirers. Solskjaer was the last manager to oversee back-to-back top four finishes, and has the backing of several United superstars within the squad. It was expected that both might work in tandem like before, but as things stand, that does not appear to be the case any longer.
