“Great things are coming”: United star delivers rallying cry after his best performance in a red shirt

Benjamin Sesko’s double on Wednesday night ensured Manchester United left Turf Moor with a point in Darren Fletcher’s first game as interim manager of the club. The Slovenian scored twice early in the second half to give United a come-from-behind lead against Burnley, who managed a response of their own in the latter stages of the game to earn a share of the spoils on the night. In what was United’s first outing since the sacking of Ruben Amorim, Sesko looked a threat throughout and could well have won the game with the chances he had across the 90 minutes. United had to settle for a point in the end, but will hope their big-money summer signing will take confidence from his best performance in a red shirt to spur him on in the second half of the campaign. Sesko happy with midweek display The 22-year-old doubled his tally for the season on Wednesday and was delighted to get up and running in the calendar year, praising his teammates for their contributions, as reported by The Mirror. “It feels great because we created great chances, especially with those two goals. Great movements, great balls. With this kind of situation, we are showing what team we are, what we are capable of and, yeah, it’s great for the future, obviously,” Sesko said. Unfortunately for the big striker, defensive lapses meant his efforts were only rewarded with a point but he believes the team deserved more and is looking forward to the next set of fixtures. “It feels obviously disappointing because I think we were fighting, we were giving our best, we were creating a lot of chances. Basically, the ball was two times in the net, like over the line, but the opponent just took it out. “We’re creating good chances. Unfortunately, we received two goals. We still get a draw, which is important, but now it’s just up to us to try to focus on the details and try to win the next game,” he added Impressive numbers point to bright future Despite drawing criticism since his arrival at Old Trafford, there are sure signs of a player in the Slovenian international who has all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League. Even with just four goals to his name in a United shirt, Sesko remains the highest-scoring striker under the age of 23 since the start of the 2023/24 season. 🚨🚨| NO player under the age of 23 in Europe has scored more goals than Benjamin Šeško since the start of 23/24 🤯🔥 pic.twitter.com/1X4hND4M8B — centredevils. (@centredevils) January 9, 2026 The youngster’s movement in and around the box is impressive, which was underlined by his seven shots on target against Burnley, a Premier League high this season. Additionally, with Bruno Fernandes now likely to be pushed closer to Sesko via the change in the dugout, alongside the return of Bryan Mbeumo and the good form of Matheus Cunha, the United striker should see chances aplenty fall his way between now and the end of the season. The promise of great things Sesko himself promised United fans that he expects a strong end to the season, despite the management upheaval, stating the team are still defiant in pushing for their goal of Champions League qualification. “Definitely. I think in general we’re a really great group. We’re doing everything to try prove ourselves every single time. We just have to keep going, keep pushing, because I think we’re great and, yeah, I believe that great things are coming,” he said. After dropping points in a raft of games that looked winnable on paper, United enter the second half of the campaign knowing they will need to improve in order to finish in the top four or five of the division. However, if Sesko can continue the fine form he showed on Wednesday, United will fancy their chances of upsetting the apple cart and securing their place at Europe’s top table for next season.
