Manchester United showed glimpses of improvement in their first game of the post-Ruben Amorim era but were ultimately held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by relegation contenders Burnley on Wednesday. Unlike the Portuguese, interim boss Darren Fletcher was not shy in making brave substitutions. He brought on Kobbie Mainoo in place of the struggling Casemiro, while throwing in Shea Lacey towards the end. Amorim had often been critical of players in public, including Manuel Ugarte and Patrick Dorgu. The Dane, in particular, shone bright under the lights at Turf Moor. Patrick Dorgu proved Amorim wrong The former head coach had criticised his attacking game, calling him “anxious” but the Denmark international proved him wrong with Fletcher giving him the licence to attack down his natural side. He grabbed the assist for Benjamin Sesko’s second of the night, while creating five chances in total, the most he’s ever had in one game since joining. He had three shots in total. The ex-Lecce star enjoyed plenty of the ball, having 84 touches in total, with six of them being in the opposition box. Patrick Dorgu in prime form Six of his passes were into the final third, while three of his crosses found their mark. He also completed one dribble. The 21-year-old was no slouch without the ball as well, making three tackles, completing one clearance and interception apiece. He also recovered the ball 10 times. Out of five aerial duels contested, the left-footed ace won four of them (all stats via fotmob). Patrick Dorgu now has two assists and one goal from his last five appearances, and Fletcher will hope there is more to come from him as the season progresses.
