Joe Hart heaped praise on Matheus Cunha ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Leeds United this afternoon. The two fierce rivals meet for the first time since Leeds returned to the top flight this season, with the first instalment of the Roses derby taking place in West Yorkshire at Elland Road. They will then meet in three months’ time for the reverse fixture at Old Trafford and, by then, United will hope to be well amongst the Champions League places at the top end of the table.Cunha among only two attacking Reds deployed at Elland Road (Photo by Molly Darlington/Getty Images)Amidst the absences of some of his most trusted lieutenants, such as Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo (AFCON) and Bruno Fernandes (injury), Ruben Amorim has deployed a predominantly defensive starting line-up.Nine of the 11 United players fielded typically occupy defensive positions; only Benjamin Sesko and Cunha are out-and-out attackers, which hasn’t filled fans with the most confidence, given Leeds enter the game on an unbeaten stretch of six matches.Anything other than a win against the Whites, who’ve spent the first half of 2025/2026 scrambling to stay out of the relegation zone, would only add to the already heaped pressure on Amorim’s shoulders.United, on the other hand, can go fourth if they secure all three points before the 3pm fixtures get underway. What did Hart have to say about Cunha?(Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images)Speaking to TNT Sports in the build-up to kick-off, Hart spoke on the influence Cunha has had since joining the Red Devils from Wolverhampton Wanderers over the summer.“He brings that spark,” Hart began. “There’s no doubt he’s got talent. He gets people on the edge of their seats.“That’s what you want when you’re a Manchester United player, especially when you’re a big signing. He was someone who would have excited them, but can he bring that little bit more today?”
