Fans vote 20 to 1 that Amorim made the wrong choices on calamitous night vs Wolves

Manchester United are a club that have always been insistent on giving young players a chance to shine. December has seen numerous injuries to first-team players and the club has also lost Noussair Mazraoui, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad to international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations. Jack Fletcher has been given three matches over the Christmas period, whilst Shea Lacey made his debut against Aston Villa. Bendito Mantato also became the third academy player to make his debut over the festive period in the 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers last night. United fans were asked which academy player they would like to see given a chance over the course of the season by the Peoples Person, and three players dominated the discussion. Shea Lacey Lacey has enjoyed a strong reputation throughout his time in the academy. Injuries have stunted his progress, but he made his debut just before Christmas at Villa Park. 29% of fans believe that Lacey should be given a chance in the first team with the absence of Mbeumo and Amad on the right-hand side of the attack. Sekou Kone Interestingly, 28% of fans felt that Sekou Kone should be given a chance in Ruben Amorim’s team. The Malian picked up an unlucky injury in August and spent the first period of the season injured. The African impressed for the youth teams last season and also put in a strong showing for the first team on the post-season tour of Hong Kong. Kone will consider himself unlucky not to have had a chance with injuries to Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in midfield. Chido Obi The Dane played eight times for the United senior team last season but has not played a minute this season in the league. He did make the bench last night, and with Benjamin Sesko struggling in front of goal, 27% of supporters voted for Ruben Amorim to give Obi a chance in the first team. Diego Leon 11% of supporters felt that Diego Leon should be awarded a chance to make his senior debut. There have been rumours that the Paraguayan summer recruit may go out on loan this winter, but his future is still unclear. With Patrick Dorgu and Luke Shaw available, a pathway at left-back is not the easiest to navigate in the first team. Finally, 3% of fans felt somebody else deserved a chance, possibly either of the Fletcher twins, Jack and Tyler. 2% of supporters felt the talented midfield academy product Jim Thwaites was deserving of a first-team role over the course of the season. Interestingly, Amorim seems to be at odds with fans, as neither Mantato nor Fletcher, the players he has given a chance to, have anything like the support of Lacey, Kone or Obi from the fans.
