Former Manchester United star David Beckham has received high praise from a famous former teammate. United career Beckham was part of the famous Class of ’92 youth team that won the Youth Cup in 1992. He was part of a group including Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, who would go on to change the club’s history in the 1990s and 2000s. In total, he made 394 appearances for the club, scoring 85 goals. The England international was also captain of his national side, playing 115 times for his country. Life after United Beckham was incredibly successful at United, winning the Champions League in 1999, six Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his time at the club. Nonetheless, he fell out with manager Sir Alex Ferguson during the 2002–2003 season and was sold to Real Madrid in the summer of 2003. He spent four seasons in Madrid before leaving for LA Galaxy in 2007. Beckham also had spells at AC Milan and finished his career with Paris Saint-Germain in the 2012–2013 season. High praise from former teammate Beckham was voted Ballon d’Or runner-up in 1999 but was probably never seen by most as the best player in any team he played for, let alone in the world. Nonetheless, in an interview, his former teammate at Real Madrid, Roberto Carlos, claimed he was the best player in a star-studded side. Speaking on The Obi One podcast (in comments carried by The Metro), the Brazil legend claimed he was the best player that he had ever played alongside. He claimed, “Zidane was top. But Beckham was a close friend of mine and a role model. The best in training and the best during games. Running all the time and making incredible passes. He played with all his heart.” He continued, “no matter what people say about Ronaldo, Zidane, Raul, Luis Figo, in the four years of the Galacticos, in my opinion, Beckham was the most consistent and the best.” The left back also claimed that the Englishman would do everything in attack and defence and put the team first, unlike some of the other stars. Roberto Carlos also stated that while the public may not have always appreciated this, his Real Madrid teammates certainly did.
