Kobbie Mainoo’s future all but confirmed as United perform dramatic transfer U-turn – Sky Sports

Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Manchester United appears to be clearer than ever following a fresh update on his January transfer status. Given his lack of minutes under manager Ruben Amorim, there has been much media speculation surrounding that player’s satisfaction at Old Trafford, especially since he received more playing time last season. Appearances11 Started0 Minutes per game21 Total minutes played229 Team of the week0 What’s more, several clubs appear to have taken an interest in him, leading to a wave of transfer gossip surrounding the English midfielder. This latest update could put all that to bed. Emotional outburst Following the 4-4 draw with Bournemouth on Monday night, Mainoo’s brother, Jordan Mainoo-Hames, made waves due to wearing a “Free Kobbie Mainoo” T-shirt. While many wondered whether Mainoo had knowledge of his brother’s stunt, the reality of the situation seems to have been confirmed by Ben Jacobs, who claimed that the pair spoke before the match and that the United player had endorsed his brother’s message. Although a scandalous moment in the eyes of the United faithful, Mainoo’s feelings come as little surprise given his most recent transfer links. Real Madrid have been linked with the player, with a report claiming that Los Blancos’ good relationship with United could lead to a January loan move for Mainoo. What’s more, West Ham and Everton are believed to be interested, according to a new report. Still, the same report acknowledged that United would prefer to send Mainoo to a foreign club on a loan deal if sanctioned. Despite the trend indicating that Mainoo is headed toward the exit door, a fresh update has provided clarity on what United intend to do with the 20 year old. United’s plan A report by Sky Sports (via the Mirror) claimed that United would only consider selling Mainoo in January if an “exceptional offer” was tabled. What’s more, it claimed that United are also reluctant to loan him out. “It is reported that United see little incentive in loaning Mainoo out as he earns a modest salary, per Sky Sports. The Red Devils would also have to find new cover if they were to facilitate his exit,” the report read. While Mainoo may be frustrated with life at Old Trafford, it appears that he will need to find a way to gain favour with Amorim, especially since the club does not seem to have enough alternative reinforcements at present in order to sanction Mainoo’s exit. Perhaps if United are active in the January transfer window, Mainoo would be able to explore a potential departure.
