Manchester United lacked a cutting edge in the final third in their abysmal 1-1 draw against West Ham United on Thursday. The forward line of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Joshua Zirkzee delivered a flat performance, devoid of creative spark against the Hammers’ compact low block. They managed just four shots on target at home. Despite having spent more than £200m on new attackers, United are still without a player capable of scoring out of the blue. It is not far-fetched to say that the Premier League giants need difference-makers like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland at the Theatre of Dreams. However, United’s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reluctant to “spend a fortune” on one superstar and would “rather sign the next Mbappe.” Manchester United make move for Zongo Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are eyeing a swoop for Mohamed Zongo. The 16-year-old Burkina Faso wonderkid made headlines with his exploits at the recent U17 World Cup, scoring two goals and assisting thrice. Known for his athleticism and passing, Zongo is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well as out wide. It is understood his academy, Sporting Football des Cascades Tenakourou, have been approached by United regarding a future move. However, the Red Devils face competition from Real Madrid for the African sensation. Real Madrid keen on “next Mbappe” According to Defensa Central, figures at Santiago Bernabeu compare Zongo to their talisman Mbappe due to his ability to take on defenders and unsettle defences. It is understood Los Blancos want to add Zongo to their Castilla development squad before considering his first-team promotion. However, the “problem” for Real is that Premier League clubs, including United and Chelsea, are pushing to sign the Burkina U17 international. To future proof their frontline, the La Liga outfit are also keeping an eye on United academy jewel JJ Gabriel, who will be eligible to sign his first professional contract in 2027.
