Then, when club football resumed after the international break, he was ruled out of United U21s’ run of fixtures against Solihull Moors and Anderlecht. The 18-year-old has notched five goals and two assists in the 12 appearances he’s made since 2025/2026 got underway, and is awaiting a first call-up to the senior squad this term, having not made a matchday squad since 2024/2025.He did make eight first-team appearances last season, however, all of which came under Ruben Amorim. Obi earned 212 valuable minutes on the turf amongst his senior teammates, including 160 minutes in the Premier League.Against Brentford in May, the Danish starlet made his first-ever start and played the full 90 minutes as United slumped to a 4-3 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium, while he also made a nine-minute cameo on the final day in a win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.Obi will be chomping at the bit to play over the festive period(Photo by Lewis Storey/Getty Images)If there were ever a time for Obi to add to his game time under Amorim, it’d likely be next month and into January when the likes of Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo will be away at the Africa Cup of Nations, so he’ll be hoping to return to full fitness ASAP.Their absences will leave Amorim depleted on the attacking front, meaning he could well call upon high-performing academy stars to fill the void.Shea Lacey, for example, was named on the bench for the last two matches against Everton and Crystal Palace.
