Manchester United have sold numerous players over recent years as they have attempted to shake up their squad. One of the most hotly-debated sales has been of academy graduate, Scott McTominay. The Carrington product played 255 times for the club, scoring 29 goals over eight seasons. He was sold to SSC Napoli in the summer of 2024 and replaced by the less than successful Manuel Ugarte, who has barely kicked a ball all season owing to his poor form. Therefore, The Peoples Person asked its readers whether or not they would welcome McTominay back to Old Trafford. Majority want him back 32% of respondents claimed that McTominay would certainly improve the first team and win back his starting role right away. Perhaps fans could envisage him being used in a number ten in Ruben Amorim’s system to take advantage of his goalscoring prowess in Italy. A further 20% felt that the Scotsman should be welcomed back to the club but he would only fulfill the role of squad player or rotation piece. United are rumoured to be keen to bring in a couple of midfielders such as Elliot Anderson, Joao Gomes and Carlos Baleba, so perhaps supporters feel he would only be back up to some of these potential new signings. 8% of fans felt less sure about a McTominay return but that they would do the deal if it were very cheap or on a free transfer. Therefore, overall 60% of respondents would take the former United man back to the club under some circumstances. Ship has sailed Nonetheless, there were a sizeable minority who feel that McTominay’s chapter at United is over. 26% of readers felt that it was a mistake to sell the player but that there is no use going back in for the player as the ship has sailed on this issue. Moreover, 14% of supporters felt that selling the 28 year old was the correct decision and that peoples’ judgement should not be clouded by his renaissance in Naples.
