Ajax Star Sends ‘Clear Signal’ That He Wants Move As Man Utd Get Major Transfer Boost

BACK David Tully Nov 21st 2025 Man Utd transfer target Jorthy Mokio is open to leaving Ajax in the New Year, according to reports. Sky Sports Switzerland claim that the teenager has given a “clear signal” that he wants to depart the Netherlands in order to further his career. Mokio was linked with a move to Old Trafford back in September, when it was reported that the Red Devils, along with the other traditional ‘Big Six’ teams – Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham – were keeping tabs on his progress. Sky have backed up that story, saying that Ruben Amorim’s side have been watching the player “very closely”. Man Utd will have competition from 2 clubs It is believed that Newcastle and Eintracht Frankfurt are currently the two likeliest teams to challenge United for Mokio. The Magpies are looking for a defensive midfielder with a young profile, while Frankfurt have had plenty of success in recent years signing players with potential and selling them on for sizeable profits. Man United’s recruitment team, under the guidance of Director of Football Jason Wilcox and Head of Recruitment Christopher Vivell, are hoping to cut out the middle man in terms of snapping up players like Mokio before the likes of Frankfurt get their hands on them. What do fans need to know about Mokio? The young Belgian has already been described as a N’Golo Kante/Declan Rice ‘hybrid’, which seems like a lethal combination. At 17 years of age, though, he still needs to develop his game in several areas to come close to justifying those comparisons. Even so, Mokio has started his senior career very brightly, having made his debut for Gent before joining Ajax on a free transfer last year. He has 30+ first-team appearances under his belt already. Belgium have also recognised his potential, having handed him his first cap back in March during a Nations League playoff against Ukraine.
