“He’s the whole package”: National team manager praises United speedster who remains key to Amorim’s plans

Patrick Dorgu may have struggled for game time at Manchester United recently, but his stock remains high. The Danish left wing-back first caught the eye at Lecce, prompting INEOS to pay a reported £25 million for him in January this year. Dorgu was part of the Red Devils team that struggled last season, and he finished the campaign with one assist in 20 appearances across competitions. Dropping out of favour this season Dorgu began the 2025/26 campaign as the first-choice left-sided wing-back but lost his place to Diogo Dalot in recent weeks. The 21 year old returned to the starting XI in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, marking his first start in five games. While he has shown purpose and tenacity on the pitch, critics will argue that the Dane’s decision-making in the final third has let him down. Despite finding strategic positions near the box, his final balls have not been up to the mark. Nevertheless, the youngster is expected to improve as he gains valuable experience at both club and international level. Dorgu has largely served as cover for Joakim Maehle for Denmark so far. However, with the Wolfsburg full-back currently unavailable, the youngster played the full 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Belarus in Saturday’s World Cup qualifiers. Denmark manager Brian Riemer, meanwhile, has no doubts about the United man’s abilities. The complete package Speaking recently, as relayed by Tipsbladet via Sport Witness, Riemer hailed Dorgu as the complete package. “He’s got everything. He has a physique that cannot be improved, can run insanely fast, you can’t push him away, and he is aggressive in his game. He’s the whole package,” said Riemer. “But he is a young man who, compared to Joakim Mæhle, has not been in so many decisive situations, and he is naturally building up that experience at the moment.” With Diogo Dalot not faring any better, Dorgu is likely to have opportunities to cement his place in Amorim’s starting XI as the season progresses. If the Dane can improve his output in the final third, the Red Devils’ left-sided wing-back position could be secure for the next decade.
