“Ready” – Delight for Man Utd as Romano issues training ground update on ‘cult hero’

Manchester United are ready to welcome back Lisandro Martinez, who is currently training with the Argentine national team. The 27-year-old has been out of action since tearing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in February, leaving a sizable gap at the back.Nevertheless, Martinez has been making significant progress in recent weeks, rejoining his teammates in grass training at Carrington. The former Ajax defender has yet to be called up for a competitive fixture, but this could be about to change.Martinez is awaiting his first outing in 2025/2026. Even Jamie Carragher, who has often labelled him ‘too short’ for the centre-half role, acknowledges his status as a ‘cult hero’ at Man Utd, thanks to his tenacious approach and die-hard attitude. This would take some of the burden off Luke Shaw’s shoulders, as the Englishman has been omnipresent at the back.
