“Has been outstanding”: Sir Alex Ferguson lavishes praise on United’s surprise package of the season

Senne Lammens has made a promising early impression at Manchester United. Ahead of the current season, Ruben Amorim prioritised revamping his attack despite concerns over Andre Onana’s form last term. Eventually, Amorim was left with no choice but to bring in a new shot-stopper as both Onana and Altay Bayindir made frustrating errors early in the season. Lammens has made a bright start to life at Manchester United The choice was between Lammens and Emiliano Martinez, and the club’s hierarchy decided to place their trust in the relatively inexperienced Belgian. United agreed to sign the 23-year-old from Royal Antwerp for £18.2m on deadline day, a bold decision given he only had one full season as Royal Antwerp’s number one under his belt. Statistically, Lammens was an appealing target, as he made more saves than any other goalkeeper in any of Europe’s top-10 leagues last season. His impressive passing ability also made him an ideal fit for Amorim’s direct style of play. The youngster had to wait over a month for his debut against Sunderland in October. He helped the Red Devils keep their first clean sheet of the campaign in a 2-0 win. The Belgian remains unbeaten as a United player, having started all of their last five games. Lammens earns praise from Man United legend Sir Alex Ferguson hailed United’s latest addition in a brief chat with Raceday RTV. When asked about his former club’s recent run of form, Ferguson said: “Well, they are, the signs… the manager has had some good signs. “Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good.” Ferguson also underlined Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha’s impact at the Theatre of Dreams. “Of course, Mbeumo and Cunha, the new players from Wolves and Brentford, they have added to it,” he added.
