BACK David Tully Nov 15th 2025 Man Utd are seriously considering making an offer for Sporting Lisbon wingback Salvador Blopa, according to reports. The Daily Mail claim that the Red Devils have “held conversations” with his club about signing him. Blopa only played his first game for Sporting’s senior team last month, and he had a pretty memorable debut. The teenager was handed the Player of the Match award after scoring two goals during a 5-1 win over minnows Alverca in the Portuguese League Cup. Why do Man Utd want the player? Blopa is a specialist wingback so he would be perfectly suited to Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, and it is a position that needs to be strengthened. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazroaui are effectively fullbacks playing further forwards, and neither is effective in creating chances in the opposition’s final third. Patrick Dorgu, meanwhile, has not managed to make any kind of impact since moving from Lecce last January. So what do fans need to know about Blopa? Although he can play on the left-hand side, he is predominantly right-footed and prefers to play off the right flank. He would, therefore, be signed as a direct competitor for Amad Diallo. Of course, Amorim already uses Amad as an inverted wingback, and he could choose to deploy Blopa in the same position on the opposite wing. He has already been compared to Nuno Mendes – another attack-minded fullback/wingback who came through the ranks at Sporting before finding fame at European champions Paris Saint-Germain. Blopa is, however, just 18 years of age, and his experience of first-team football is limited. In addition to that appearance against Alverca, he has played 14 times for Sporting’s B team in Portugal’s lower leagues. That hardly provides enough gametime to determine whether he is ready to make the leap to the English top-flight.
