Brave United star admits relishing ambitious club challenge that has sunk countless predecessors

Manchester United star Matheus Cunha has admitted to relishing the difficult challenge of restoring the club to its past glories, even as he and his teammates appear to have turned a corner. United in improved form United are currently in much better shape after a patchy start to the season. A few weeks ago, Ruben Amorim seemed in danger of losing his job amidst the club’s woeful performances and results. However, since last month, United have not tasted defeat – a run that stretches from the victory over Sunderland just before the October international break. The weekend’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur marked the fifth game in which United have managed to snatch at least a point. United came close to losing against Thomas Frank’s men but Matthijs de Ligt’s headed finish deep into stoppage time ensured the spoils were shared in North London. The Red Devils currently lie in seventh place in the Premier League table, just a point adrift of Sunderland in fourth. Currently on international duty with Brazil, Cunha spoke to the media and revealed that he is loving the challenge of restoring United to the pinnacle of English and European football. Cunha relishing challenge Cunha said at a press conference [via Hayters], “Being at Manchester United right now is something that I’m so grateful for.” “It’s very impactful for me to perform like we are doing, to show everyone that United is a club that needs to be at the top.” “We’ve done everything to put United there and without doubt, to come here [to the Brazilian national team], we need to show everyone it’s because we did a good job at our clubs.” He added, “I hope we continue like this. We continue to push United forward, to help them, to help the fans, to help the club [become] what everyone wants them to be.” “Right now to be with the national team is the pride of everyone. To come here and work with [Carlo] Ancelotti is something that I’m also so grateful for. One of the biggest coaches in the world. He’s already helped us to develop our level and you feel very proud to do everything with him. To be able to do the good work with him.” Cunha emphasised that he is keen to prove why he is an important player for United and Brazil at every possible occasion.
