“It’s inevitable…”: United’s midfield maestro speaks about his future as Old Trafford exit looms this summer

Casemiro’s contract at Manchester United expires at the end of this season, and his future at the Theatre of Dreams remains up in the air. The Brazilian had a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, and his future was the subject of speculation over the summer. United were linked to several midfielders during the transfer window but ended up signing none. Meanwhile, Casemiro has enjoyed a resurgence at the Theatre of Dreams this season. One of Amorim’s most important men Casemiro has formed a new-look midfield pivot this season alongside Bruno Fernandes, and they have grown in stature in recent weeks. The Brazilian’s experience and ability to sniff out danger in the middle of the park has proven decisive for the team so far. While Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens have hogged the limelight of late, Casemiro has quietly been one of Ruben Amorim’s most important players. The 33 year old has set the tone in midfield, and has even scored three times in 10 games so far. Such has been his form that Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo have been relegated to the bench. A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that the Red Devils will make a decision on the player’s future depending on how the season unfolds. The veteran midfielder has provided an update on his plans. Casemiro focused on short-term goals Speaking recently to O Globo, Casemiro insisted that he is not thinking too much about the future. “I’m into short-term goals. Of course, it’s inevitable to think about being in good shape for a World Cup, but you can’t expect to be in good shape for the World Cup if you’re not doing well at Manchester United,” said Casemiro. “For the next call-up, I have to be in good shape. I think day by day: tomorrow I have a good training session, at the weekend I have to play a great game, and so on.” From a peripheral player last season to an undisputed starter this year, Casemiro has already proven his worth to Amorim. However, United’s overreliance on the ageing superstar perhaps highlights the need for INEOS to invest wisely in midfield in 2026.
