Amorim told he has a player in his ranks who’s ‘a different level’, he’s just so ‘special’

Micah Richards has singled out Bruno Fernandes for his praise following his game-changing assist against Liverpool.

Whilst the Manchester United skipper had initially endured a quiet game, he, as he so frequently does, produced a moment of pure magic in the 84th minute when he delivered an inch-perfect lofted ball in the box, which was converted by Harry Maguire.

To make the passage of play even more exhilarating, Fernandes’ pass was hit on the volley after Bryan Mbeumo’s shot deflected off of Federico Chiesa, falling outside the area and into the midfielder’s path.

The Portuguese maestro has since been lauded for producing what Roy Keane believed essentially only one out of 100 players would do in that exact scenario.

Fernandes was hooked in the 85th minute, with Kobbie Mainoo being called upon to see out the remaining five minutes plus eight minutes of injury time. When Michael Oliver blew for full-time, it marked United’s first win on their arch-rivals’ turf in nine-and-a-half years.

What Richards had to say about Fernandes

Richards was also keen to commend Fernandes for his impact on Merseyside, telling Gary Lineker: “He [Fernandes] is Man United’s best player, and he has been since he went to the club. He’s just a different level, and he must have been frustrated over the years because you can see it sometimes, he’s a little bit petulant, but that’s because he cares so much.

“But in terms of his quality, it’s undoubted. He’s so good, such a good player. Even playing a little deeper, he had to dictate the game in there, and I thought him and Casemiro did really well until Liverpool got back into the game, but yeah, he’s a special player.”

Next up for the Reds is home clash with Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday evening, who are on the back of a 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

Only two points separate United and the Seagulls, who’ve won one fewer game and drawn two more than their upcoming opponents.
