One journalist couldn’t speak highly enough of Matheus Cunha after the forward’s scintillating display at Anfield yesterday.
Ahead of kick-off on Sunday, Ruben Amorim opted to recall Cunha to the starting XI in place of Benjamin Sesko, despite the latter scoring in back-to-back games in the build-up to the clash.
Arne Slot had also admitted that he’d entered the game anticipating Sesko would retain his place, causing his side problems from the offset over how to counteract United’s approach.
How Matheus Cunha fared at Anfield

Whilst Cunha did not register a goal contribution in the 2-1 triumph, he was absolutely integral to United getting the result over the line.
The 26-year-old recorded two successful dribbles on the night, as well as three final-third passes and three touches in the opposition’s box, making him a real handful for the Liverpool backline.
He also did his bit deeper afield, too. Cunha made two headed clearances, one interception and six recoveries, and won four ground duels and one aerial duel (Fotmob).
One journo was keen to highlight Cunha’s sensational performance

Journalist Sam Pilger reacted to the Brazilian’s display on X/Twitter, saying: “Matheus Cunha has not yet scored for Manchester United, but my word what a beautiful player, full of composure, skill, flair, courage and character. An incredible signing who is only getting started.”
It remains to be seen if he’ll be given the nod when the Reds welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to Old Trafford on Saturday, but he’s undoubtedly done enough to be in consideration.
Additionally, it only further proves to INEOS why they were right to pursue Premier League-proven talents this year; Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who opened the scoring inside two minutes on Merseyside, have both provided an instant impact for Amorim since the campaign got underway.
