Fabrizio Romano reveals West Ham interest in Man Utd star who’s ‘not happy’ with limited role

Joshua Zirkzee may have lost his prominence at Manchester United, but he’s been attracting interest from the Premier League and Serie A.

The Dutchman endured a rollercoaster first season at Old Trafford. After being cheered off the pitch by his own supporters in late December, Zirzkee managed to win the fanbase’s appreciation due to his tenacity, high work rate and technical touch.

But this season, the 24-year-old has been starving for playing time. Benjamin Sesko has cemented himself as the first-choice centre-forward, while fellow new signing Matheus Cunha has been deployed as a striker as well. Moreover, Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount have been Amorim’s favourite options for the two No.10 roles.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Zirkzee is ‘not happy’ with the amount of minutes he received thus far this season. The Italian journalist revealed as much in the latest update posted on his YouTube channel.

Nevertheless, Romano insists that the versatile attacker is not ‘unhappy’ at United. On the contrary, the player has kept his head down and is working extremely hard to carve himself an important role at Amorim’s court.

But while the former Bologna star has no desire to leave Carrington at the moment, his intentions could change once we approach the January transfer window, at least if his minutes do not improve in the coming weeks and months.

After all, his national team manager, Ronald Koeman, had reportedly expressed his concern over Zirkzee’s lack of playing time, which might cost him a place in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.

Romano thus reveals that several Serie A clubs could be looking to pounce on the opportunity, in addition to some Premier League clubs who have already registered their interest in the player, including West Ham United.

Zirkzee attracts interest from West Ham & Serie A

Smart, versatile, and technical, it is easy to see why Zirkzee remains a highly sought-after figure across Europe, especially in Italy, where he enjoyed a fantastic 2023/24 campaign with Bologna.

However, getting rid of one of the few remaining strikers on their books would be ill-advised on Man Utd’s part, especially following the departures of Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund, who are unlikely to play for the club ever again.

Fulham 0
Burnley 59
Manchester City 10
Chelsea 0
Brentford 5
Sunderland 0
Total 74

Therefore, Amorim would be wise to find Zirkzee a role in his plans that perhaps includes an occasional starting berth, as he doesn’t want to find himself facing an attacking deficiency in the second half of the season.
