Solskjaer in line for swift return to football management after being approached for top job – report

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be back in football management sooner than anyone expected.

Solksjaer on the hunt for his next club

Having been initially brought in as caretaker manager in 2018 before being given the position permanently, Solskjaer parted ways with United in November 2021.

Despite enjoying some highs in the United dugout, Solskjaer was eventually let go after a string of poor results and performances. He took charge of 168 games as United boss.

After a long stint away from football, he was named head coach of Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas in January, replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Despite guiding Besiktas to fourth in the league, Solskjaer was relieved of his duties in August following the team’s failure to secure a UEFA Conference League spot.

Now, according to The Sun, the Norwegian coach has been approached to take over the reins at Rangers, who have stepped up their pursuit of a new gaffer after dismissing Russell Martin.

Rangers make move for Solskjaer

The Sun reveal, Rangers have spoken to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Bo Svensson as candidates to replace Russell Martin.”

“SunSport understands that he was approached by Gers chiefs to discuss the vacancy at Ibrox.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard appeared to be the frontrunner to get the job and return to Rangers but he ruled himself out of contention.

Speculation over Solskjaer taking the Rangers job was fueled after his former United teammate Paul Scholes suggested that he had been interviewed for the position.

Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, “I was actually with a lad the other night who told me he was actually going to meet Rangers.”

Nicky Butt questioned whether it was Solskjaer, to which Scholes replied, “No comment.”
