Casemiro set for new United contract, just one condition needs agreeing – report

Manchester United have reportedly changed their stance on Casemiro’s future as the midfielder approaches the final stages of his contract.

Casemiro nearing United exit

Casemiro has long been expected to depart United next summer upon the expiry of his terms.

When he joined United in 2022, he put pen to paper on a contract that made him one of the highest earners at the club, alongside the likes of David de Gea and Raphael Varane.

However, his dip in form prompted multiple efforts from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS to move him on and get his massive wages off the club’s books.

Over the past few windows, Casemiro has been strongly linked with a switch to the Saudi Pro League and even his native Brazil, but a move has never materialised.

He has always been adamant that his desire is to see out his contract and then leave if he is not presented with a fresh offer.

With United expected to overhaul their midfield department in the summer of 2026, Casemiro’s departure was widely viewed as inevitable. However, according to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, there’s still a possibility that the veteran could extend his stay at Old Trafford.

United change course on Casemiro

Dawson claims that United may opt to keep Casemiro but only on one strict condition.

“Manchester United have not ruled out keeping Casemiro beyond the end of the season, but the midfielder would likely have to accept a pay cut if he wants to stay, sources have told ESPN.”

“If he wants to stay at United, sources have told ESPN that he would have to agree to a sizable cut in salary.”

“Sources have told ESPN that he’s settled in Manchester with his family. There’s interest from clubs in Brazil and the Saudi Pro League and he can start talking to clubs outside England from January.”

United hold the option to extend Casemiro’s contract by a further 12 months, though doing so would require maintaining his current salary. It appears highly unlikely that the club will take up this alternative.

Meanwhile, Casemiro and his teammates are back in action on Sunday when they face Liverpool at Anfield.
