European team planning to “open discussions” with United for “fantastic” star Amorim desperate to sell – report

Manchester United took the right call regarding Andre Onana after the Cameroonian’s repeated high-profile mistakes in goal ever since signing for the club.

Ruben Amorim initially wanted to focus on other areas of the pitch, but the Grimsby Town horror show proved to be the final straw, and the ex-Ajax ace was sent out on loan to Trabzonspor.

His backup, Altay Bayindir, did not fare much better for the Red Devils, and Senne Lammens was signed on deadline day. The Belgian enjoyed a fantastic debut at the weekend.

As for Onana, he has kept one clean sheet in four games for his new club, including conceding four in a single game. However, he was termed “fantastic” by the local media following his debut.

Onana: start to life at Trabzonspor

But the Turkish outfit are delighted, with head coach Fatih Tekke impressed with not only his skills on the pitch but also his leadership qualities and the way he has taken to his new surroundings.

The club president had said that they would take a call on the United shot-stopper’s future after talks with the coaching staff, and now, The Sun have revealed that they will begin talks with United over a permanent move for the Cameroon international.

The 29-year-old already earns more than he did at Old Trafford, so personal terms are not expected to be an issue. His loan deal does not include an option or obligation to buy, so fresh talks regarding the valuation are expected.

“TRABZONSPOR have told Andre Onana’s camp they would love to sign him permanently, despite his loan deal being without an option or obligation to buy, SunSport understands.

“What has impressed head coach Fatih Tekke is not just Onana’s goalkeeping ability, but also his leadership qualities and how well he has adapted to his new surroundings.

Permanent deal on the cards

“SunSport understands that Onana’s loan deal contains no option or obligation to buy. However, Trabzonspor have indicated they would like to open discussions with Manchester United about the possibility of making the move permanent when the loan expires.”

United had paid ÂŁ47 million to Inter Milan in 2023 for his services, and INEOS will try and recoup as high a fee as possible. Good showings in Turkey will help in that endeavour.

It is unlikely that the Turkish team can afford Andre Onana, with their record purchase being worth around €7 million.

The Red Devils would have to massively reduce their asking price or a new team will have to come in. Hopefully, it will be the latter.
