“What’s going on inside”: United summer signing opens up on negativity surrounding the club following poor start

Manchester United have started the new season like they ended the last, with fans calling for INEOS to take action.

Following the defeat to Brentford, the Red Devils have now won a meagre nine Premier League games out of 33 under Ruben Amorim, and only twice in six games this campaign.

The head coach’s flawed system and refusal to adapt have been criticised by one and all, but for now, his players seem to be backing him to turn the tide around.

In fact, summer signing Bryan Mbeumo told Sky Sports that the players have to take more responsibility to avoid such poor results moving forward.

Players need to take more responsibility

“Obviously disappointed with the result, I had a warm welcome back from the fans and I will never forget that.

“I think everyone in the team needs to take responsibility. When you play in a club this big, everyone needs to know what to do – as a team, we need to do better.”

Toxicity and United go hand-in-hand, especially when results do not go their way. And the Cameroonian will be new to these things since he moved from the Bees to the Red Devils in the summer.

Pundits, ex-players, the media love it when the 20-time English league champions struggle and often times, the social media storm can prove to be a distraction.

On outside noise

Not for Bryan Mbeumo though, who says he is only focussed on improving and he tries to avoid social media. Something young stars can learn from.

“Obviously it’s different, it’s not the same, but the only thing we want to be focused on is ourselves, we just try to listen to what’s going on inside.

“It’s not that hard [to block the noise out], obviously, the main thing we see is on social media, so it’s just not going on there much, and you just have to stay focused on your own things.”

While Saturday was yet another match to forget for United fans, there was one tiny silver lining with the team lining up with their strongest attack for the first time this season.

On new-look attack

Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all started, with the Slovenian finally getting on the scoresheet. And the Cameroon international is excited to play and improve with his attacking partners as the season progresses.

“It’s exciting, because we get to learn to play with new players and it’s always challenging, but that’s what we like as footballers.

“Of course it will improve, we haven’t played a lot together, so there are certain things that we’re going to improve, and there are different types of players, but it’s good to be with them.”

Hopefully, the 26-year-old can inspire the 20-time English league champions to victory on Saturday, when they take on high-flying Sunderland at Old Trafford.
