Women’s Player of the Month poll opens

Four Manchester United Women are in the running for September’s Player of the Month prize.

It’s been a bumper month of action for Marc Skinner’s side, as we’ve negotiated the opening four matches of the Barclays WSL season, plus a European double header with Brann.

History was made, as we defeated the Norwegian outfit 3-1 on aggregate, to progress to the main phase of the Champions League for the first time in our history.

And it’s been a positive start to the top-flight campaign too, with victories over Leicester City, London City Lionesses and Liverpool, plus a draw against Arsenal, meaning we sit second ahead of the first test of October – a mouthwatering clash with leaders and champions Chelsea.

It’s fair to say we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to Player of the Month nominations, but this quartet have particularly stood out…

Who gets your vote as United Women’s Player of the Month?

MELVINE MALARD

Games: 6 Goals: 4 Assists: 1

Our French forward is joint-top of the WSL scoring charts, with braces against Leicester and London City in our opening two league games enabling her to fly out of the blocks.

Melvine has struck up a great relationship with Elisabeth Terland in the Reds’ attack, teeing up the Norwegian for her hat-trick goal versus Brann.

Skinner said: “I think now that she’s settled and we’ve got the best of her, she can be fluid across the front line, she’s a handful.”

JESS PARK

Games: 6 Goals: 1 Assists: 1

The former Manchester City midfielder has enjoyed a brilliant start to life on the red side of the city, opening her account with a stunner in Bromley.

Park has quickly established herself in Skinner’s first XI, starting five of our six games in September and also registering an assist for Malard against London City.

Skinner said: “I think that maybe sometimes she’s been a little bit on the chain and we’re letting her off it to be able to create moments.”

JAYDE RIVIERE

Games: 6 Goals: 1 Assists: 1 Clean Sheets: 4

Jayde has picked up where she left off in 2024/25, with the Reds’ backline proving just as tough to permeate as it was last term.

The Canada international’s attacking instincts have also been evident, as she opened her goalscoring account with a phenomenal strike at London City… which definitely wasn’t a cross!

Riviere said: “I personally just thought I would shoot. She [Melvine] actually encourages me a lot in training to shoot when I’m in the box. I saw the goalie cheat off her line so I said: ‘Why not?’ I guess I got the benefit on this day.”

ELISABETH TERLAND

Games: 6 Goals: 4 Assists: 2

Teri’s amazing record in Europe continued, as her treble helped overturn a first-leg deficit when former side Brann came to Leigh.

Our striker now has eight goals to her name this term – seven in continental competition and one in the league opener v Leicester. She’s bidding to win this prize for a second straight month, but is always keen to credit the team effort…

Terland said: “I’m a loyal player and I work hard for the team. When you have team-mates like you have on this team, you want to do everything for them, and you know they’ll do the same for you.”

VOTE NOW

Make your selection in the poll above, before the vote closes on Thursday 2 October.

We’ll announce the winner in the run-up to Friday’s meeting with the Blues.

Tickets are still available for the clash at the Progress with Unity Stadium.
