Director of football Jason Wilcox has presented Bruno Fernandes with some framed artwork to mark the captain’s 100 goals for Manchester United.
The Portugal international reached triple figures for the Reds when scoring the opener in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League.
He is only the 23rd man to achieve the landmark in the club’s illustrious history and collected the gift in front of team-mates and staff in the canteen at Carrington on Wednesday afternoon.
Wilcox joked that Bruno had asked for one in addition for all of his assists as well and said: “This is just a small presentation of recognition to Bruno, our captain. As you know, he’s scored 100 goals for Manchester United, which is an amazing achievement.
“Bruno, as you know, you all know him well, is a captain who leads by example; to any young players, he’s a shining example of what it takes to be a top, top player and he’s a fantastic representation of our football club and his family.”
During his speech, our no.8 outlined his determination to help ensure more team success with the Reds.
“Obviously, thanks to everyone from day one,” he said. “All the assists, all the goals, all the penalties that you guys you gave me the chance to score.
“I’m very happy and proud to achieve this big number. It wasn’t something I was dreaming about when I grew up to become a footballer but, obviously, it’s a privilege for me and I hope that, together with this, we can put a lot of trophies in the cabinet because that is what matters most.”
Congratulations to Bruno from everybody at the club and let’s hope he can start moving towards the next landmark in Saturday’s away game at Brentford.
