Ratcliffe is “monitoring everything” at Old Trafford as a “big storm” swirls around Amorim’s future – Fabrizio Romano

Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United has been subject to speculation for a while.

The former Sporting manager took charge at the Theatre of Dreams in November last year and has endured a difficult time so far.

The Red Devils finished 15th in the league table last season and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

INEOS, though, kept their faith in their head coach and even backed him over the summer. Amorim was handed a new look attack featuring Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko before the start of the campaign.

Senne Lammens was added to the Portuguese’s kitty late in the summer to bolster the goalkeeper department. However, results have failed to improve so far.

Amorim remains under pressure

While United have played better football compared to last season, they have struggled with consistency. The Red Devils are now 11th in the league table after five games, already eight points behind leaders Liverpool.

Amorim’s team have two wins and two defeats in the league, scoring six goals and conceding eight. To make matters worse, they are also out of the EFL Cup after a defeat at the hands of minnows Grimsby Town in the second round last month.

The situation has added to speculation regarding the Portuguese head coach’s future at Old Trafford. Following the defeat to Manchester City earlier this month, it was reported that Amorim has just three games to save his job.

Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola are some of the managers linked with the hot seat at the Theatre of Dreams. A recent poll by The Peoples Person showed that around 35% of fans want the Premier League giants to sack their head coach immediately, while only 12% believe that he should be afforded a year to get his act together.

The 2-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday, September 20, in the Premier League, will ease a little pressure on Amorim, but the situation remains tense. Acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the matter.

United not eyeing replacements

Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Romano insisted that United are not in talks to replace Amorim at the moment.

“Manchester United beat Chelsea, so less pressure for Ruben Amorim after a complicated week. There had been a big storm around the manager,” said Romano.

“Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Carrington, but they did not talk about changing the system. He just wants to be present, he wants to understand, so he was in the stands for the Manchester derby, in the stands for Chelsea. He wants to help make sure everything is going in the right direction.

“From what I am told, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be absolutely super present again this week, monitoring everything, and he wants to make sure everything is going in the right direction. This is the reason not to influence the system or the tactics. Amorim feels his support.

“Man United never approached any other coach. Never any conversations or negotiations because they maintain their confidence in Amorim. They want to see more results. It was an important win for Amorim’s future.”

United return to action on Saturday, September 27, when they travel to the Gtech Stadium to face Brentford in the Premier League.
