“They had an outstanding game!”: Tullis-Joyce singles out resilient United quartet for praise after hard-earned draw vs Arsenal

Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce lauded her defenders for their efforts in securing a point against Arsenal.

United secure a point against Arsenal

United headed into the game against Arsenal in high spirits after sealing a historic qualification into the league phase of the 2025/26 Champions League.

Like United, Arsenal had a 100% record in the WSL, but the two sides had to share the spoils at Leigh Sports Village.

The likes of Ella Toone, Melvine Malard, Jess Park and Julia Zigiotti Olme all had sights of goal but they couldn’t quite find the back of the net.

Marc Skinner’s side restricted Arsenal to just one shot on target. Tullis-Joyce was tested a few times but she was up to the task every single time.

The result has left United in second place in the WSL table, two points below league leaders Chelsea and just above Arsenal on goal difference.

Following the final whistle, Tullis-Joyce spoke to MUTV, praising her defensive quartet, Celin Bizet, Maya Le Tissier, Dominique Janssen and Anna Sandberg, for their performance.

Tullis-Joyce gives verdict on the game

“Definitely, I think that was a great result for our team. Obviously, there’s more that we can do but I’m so proud of these games that we’ve had. Great performance by both teams and I’m excited to see where we can take that.”

Asked about limiting Arsenal to just one shot on target despite them having a full week of rest, Tullis-Joyce answered, “Very impressive.”

“And that’s just our backline right there. They had an outstanding game.”

“Everyone as well, everyone gritted it out today. We knew what we had to do and we saw that on the pitch.”

On being named player of the match and making a decisive save that ensured United clinched at least a point, Tullis-Joyce remarked, “Head down, play it off. Double bonus. I’ll take the goal-kick against Arsenal.”

On next weekend’s meeting with Liverpool, Tullis-Jouce said, “A moment to breathe and then get right back into it, because there’s no rest in the WSL.”

“We know how important this next game is too.”

The United goalkeeper paid tribute to the supporters after a record crowd turned out at Leigh Sports Village for the clash.

“They’re always incredible. Our supporters are just absolutely amazing and we appreciate them so much, even the people that are watching online. We appreciate your support and we feel it. We definitely love it.
