United aim to maintain wonderful record while also restraining a former ally returning to Old Trafford

Manchester United welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford in what already feels like a must-win for Ruben Amorim’s side.

The two sides have played one another 197 times with United winning 83 matches.

There have been 57 draws and the Blues have also come out on top on 57 occasions.

Here are three plotlines to tuck into before the match this evening.

Former players

Mason Mount started the season in fine form but picked up an injury against Burnley.

Luckily, he only missed the match against Manchester City and it has been reported he is fit to face his former side.

Whilst this is the Englishman’s third season in Manchester, he has never been able to stay fit, so his ability to be available will be massive in the current campaign.

In probably bigger news, Alejandro Garnacho will return to Old Trafford less than a month after departing for Chelsea.

The Argentine will likely be keen to prove a point and United fans will most likely not be too enamoured with his desire to move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Fantastic home record

In a catastrophic last year, United seem to have seen records tumbling all around them but one thing they have maintained his a strong home record against the West London side.

The BBC reports “Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League home games against Chelsea ( five wins and seven draws) since a 0-1 defeat in May 2013.”

“Indeed, Chelsea’s win rate of 18% at Old Trafford in the Premier League (6/33) is their lowest away to any side they have visited 10+ times in the competition.”

United and Amorim are in desperate need for a positive result, so will hope that they can keep the Blues at bay this evening.

Bryan Mbeumo threat

The Cameroonian’s adaptation to life at United has been one of the most positive aspects of the new season to date.

He has scored two goals and was desperately unlucky not to add more to his tally against Man City last weekend.

On a personal level, Mbeumo will have his eye on next weekend’s return to Brentford, he has a great record versus today’s opponents.

The BBC report that “Bryan Mbeumo has been involved in six goals in seven Premier League appearances against Chelsea (3 goals, 3 assists) – all while playing for Brentford – but all of these goal involvements came at Stamford Bridge. It is the joint-most goals and assists against a single opponent with none coming on home soil by any player in Premier League history.”

The match will kick off at 17:30 BST this evening.

Alex Browne

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
