“We are history makers”: Skinner sends out bullish message to the rest of Europe after CL qualification

Manchester United Women sealed their spot in the Champions League with an outstanding victory at the Leigh Sports Village.

Inspired by Elisabeth Terland’s sublime hattrick, United blew away SK Brann with a 3-0 victory at the Leigh Sports Village.

Manager Marc Skinner was obviously delighted with the performance of his team and was bullish about his side’s chances of competing amongst Europe’s best.

History makers

Speaking to the club’s official website he declared that, “we are history makers.”

Whilst the team would take time to enjoy their achievement he made it clear that United will look to compete with anyone they face.

He added, “I said to the players at the end, we’ve got to go in there and not just make up the numbers, we have to go and really be excited by the opportunity to play against Europe’s best teams. If you want to be there, you’ve got to perform against them.”

Skinner also claimed that, “I hope that the teams that get us, they see that actually they didn’t really want to play Manchester United. But in all honesty, whoever we get, we will absolutely try and maximise those games that we get.”

Different experience

The head coach admitted that the challenge will be different from one they have faced before but he is confident his team can rise to it.

He explained, “it will be a totally different challenge, but something we’re looking forward to. We’ve got players that have experience of that, we added that experience. It’ll be a different challenge, but something we’re going to absolutely embrace. We’ve just made history, so why not go and enjoy it?”

Terland praise

The Norwegian striker has been a sensation this season, scoring eight goals already, including seven and two hattricks in Champions League qualification.

Commenting on his striker he added, “I’m really proud of her tonight, because she grew in a psychological situation, and I think those goals just show the quality of player she is.”

He continued, “I think she’s one of the best finishers I’ve ever worked with. She’s so intelligent in the box, she wants to work, she wants to find little angles, she’s always thinking.”

Finally, Skinner revealed that Celin Bizet, who missed the match and Jayde Riviere should be fine for the vital league match at home to Arsenal on Sunday.

Alex Browne

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
