Former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has hit an early stumbling block in his Aston Villa career.
Lindelof joins Villa
Lindelof completed a move to Villa in the final stages of the summer transfer window, finally putting an end to speculation over his future.
He had been a free agent after United released him at the end of last season, upon the expiry of his contract.
Lindelof spent eight seasons at United, having joined the club from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2017. He went on to make 284 appearances for the Red Devils.
During the transfer window, Lindelof was linked to the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Fiorentina, but it was Villa who ultimately won the race to snap him up on a free.
The Swede made his debut for Villa last weekend as they played out a 0-0 draw with Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
He came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute and surprisingly, primarily played in midfield.
Lindelof would have been hoping to build on his debut and make real progress, but Unai Emery has confirmed he has picked up an injury.
Emery confirms Lindelof setback
Emery said [as quoted by Birmingham Live], “It is a small injury, but maybe in a few days he will be available again.”
This issue caused Lindelof to miss Villa’s Carabao Cup meeting with Brentford on Tuesday. Villa were dumped out of the competition on penalties.
The encouraging news is that Lindelof’s injury is not thought to be serious, raising hopes he can return soon and finally kick on at Villa.
Meanwhile, United are back in action on Saturday when they host Chelsea at Old Trafford.
