Bayindir was unsurprisingly useless, but this shambolic United star was the real architect of 3-0 demolition vs. City

Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of cross-town rivals Manchester City. Here are our player ratings for the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Altay Bayindir 3 – Unsettled from the beginning, with multiple panic-stricken moments. Nearly handed Erling Haaland two extra goals on top of his brace, and didn’t cover himself in glory for any of the three goals conceded.

Leny Yoro 4 – A rare poor performance in a United shirt. Decent first half but fell off a cliff in the second, and was partially culpable for City’s second of the evening, as he let Jeremy Doku easily get the best of him.

Matthijs de Ligt 5 – OK. Didn’t do too much wrong but was part of a backline that fell apart and conceded three goals.

Luke Shaw 1 – Abysmal! Failed to step up and engage Doku, who proceeded to create City’s opening strike. Slow reaction to intervene during Haaland’s first goal and just never looked up for it. Roy Keane accused him of throwing in the towel and it’s hard to argue against this assessment.

Noussair Mazraoui 4 – An underwhelming return to the starting XI. Easily gave the ball away a number of times and didn’t offer nearly enough going forward.

Manuel Ugarte 5 – Decent first-half display but faded badly after the break. A sloppy pass to De Ligt put the defender under pressure and nearly gifted City another goal.

Bruno Fernandes 4 – Didn’t track Phil Foden for the England international’s goal, and was not involved nearly enough by his usual standards.

Patrick Dorgu 5 – Tried to make things happen, although not much was coming off. His final ball remains a major weakness, and he wasted some promising positions. Still, he did at least show some fight.

Amad 3 – Anonymous. Completely wasted at left 10 and when restored to a wing-back role, didn’t improve either.

Bryan Mbeumo 6 – Came closest for United, forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma into an excellent save with an excellent volley. United’s brightest spark and needed more support from his teammates.

Benjamin Sesko 4 – Made a bright start with an early strike from distance, but that was as good as it got. Struggled to get involved thereafter, with little service to work with.

Substitutes

Harry Maguire 4 – Caught out of position by Halaand for the striker’s second and City’s third of the game.

Kobbie Mainoo 4 – Looked hopeless when he came on. Game was already gone and he couldn’t do much to salvage things.

Casemiro 5 – Same as Mainoo. An unimpactful substitute during the few minutes he was afforded. Should have ideally started the game.

Joshua Zirkzee 5 – Like Casemiro, made little to no difference during the limited period he was on the pitch.
