Alejandro Garnacho may be a Chelsea player now, but that hasn’t stopped him from expressing his gratitude for the impact Bruno Fernandes had on his Manchester United career.
The end of the international break this weekend will mark the first opportunity Garnacho will get to make his debut after making the switch to Stamford Bridge on deadline day last week.
Alejandro Garnacho eagerly awaiting maiden Chelsea outing
Towards the end of August, it was confirmed that the winger had not been called up to Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina squad for their World Cup qualifiers, meaning Garnacho has not had the chance to add to his eight senior caps for the world champions.
However, it has allowed him to get to familiarise himself with his surroundings at Cobham, Chelsea’s training complex, and put his full focus on the Blues’ home clash with Brentford, pencilled in for this Saturday’s 8pm kick-off slot.
Garnacho’s United tenure came to a sour end, which is unfortunate to say he’s an academy graduate who’d spent five years at the club and only ever represented the Reds in his senior career.
He signed from Atletico Madrid’s academy in 2020 for a fee of £420,000 and was sold for £40 million at 21 years old. It’s safe to say it’s a tidy profit and much-needed PSR boost for United, but there’s certainly a case to be made for Chelsea underpaying quite significantly, especially when considering what other forward players were sold for in the same window.
Omari Hutchinson £37.5M
Dan Ndoye £40M
Dango Ouattara £42.5M
Jacob Ramsey £43M
Noni Madueke £50M
Jamie Gittens £51M
Anthony Elanga £55M
João Pedro £60MYeah. We’re within our right to demand £50M for Garnacho.

Garnacho’s message to Fernandes

Nonetheless, Garnacho took to Instagram on Monday to reach out to his former skipper, Fernandes, on his 31st birthday.
He shared a snap of the pair celebrating a goal, captioned: “Thanks for everything you did for me. I miss you.”

The young Argentine will return to Old Trafford on September 20 when United host Chelsea in a highly anticipated Premier League encounter.
