Manchester United have reportedly performed a transfer U-turn on the expected signing of goalkeeper Abdulla Al-Hammadi.
Al-Hammadi impresses at Carrington
Earlier this month, it emerged that United were weighing up offering a contract to Al-Hammadi after he impressed at trial.
Al-Hammadi spent a few weeks on trial at Carrington and United were thought to be keen on retaining him after the exit of Hubert Graczyk.
United secured Graczyk’s services from Arsenal last summer but he only lasted at United for one season before his exit, having made a few appearances for the Under-21s.
On Sunday, Steven Railston of Manchester Evening News relayed that United had made the decision to complete the signing of Al-Hammadi on a free transfer.
Railston stated, “Al-Hammadi has impressed staff and is expected to complete a move to United, subject to registration. The goalkeeper is a free agent, meaning United do not have to complete the deal before the transfer deadline.”
It was thought that the 20-year-old would be an academy signing rather than an addition to the first team.
However, it appears that the deal will not get over the line.
Al-Hammadi transfer put on hold
Railston has given an update on the situation, indicating that United have opted against officially adding Al-Hammadi to their ranks.
“I’m now told this move isn’t going to happen.”
“United gave it serious consideration and the player was under the impression he would be offered a deal, but final decision has been made not to sign him.”

It’s unclear why United have pulled out of signing Al-Hammadi.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have struck a full agreement with Royal Antwerp for Senne Lammens, who is racing to seal his switch to United before the transfer window closes.
