Chido Obi stole the show with a goal, but this outstanding 18-yo star was the reason United U-21s beat Man City

Manchester United u21s continued their perfect start to the Premier League 2 campaign with a late goal providing the three points over rivals Manchester City.

Here are our player ratings for the match. Read the detailed match report of all the action here.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Will Murdock – 8 – A top performance from Murdock in goal for United, he was called into question a number of times particularly in the first half and came out with four saves. The best of the bunch came early on to stop City from opening the scoring when he got down very quickly to cover the right corner.

Jaydan Kamason – 6.5 – Had a lot of trouble with Reigan Heskey in the first half but improved defensively as United gained more control throughout the match. In possession, he did well to move the ball quickly and had a few darting runs into space.

Jacob Devaney – 8 – He kept United in the match through City’s dominant spell in the first half. An early block was followed up by a goal line clearance as he made a number of vital interventions throughout the match. As a natural midfielder, he stepped out from the back well with the ball as well as out of possession to win balls early.

Dan Armer – 7.5 – Composed on the ball, his passing out from the back was inch perfect. Defensively he made an important block late in the match and generally defended the box well but was troubled by pace at times.

Bendito Mantato – 7 – A shaky start to the match, he looked uncomfortable defending but soon found his feet after getting on the ball more. He pushed high up the left wing which helped pin City back and had the beating of his marker.

Tyler Fletcher – 7.5 – Was key to United playing through City’s press in the first phase with disguised reverse passes that helped open the field and allow United to impose themselves more on the match.

Jayce Fitzgerald – 7.5 – Displayed a great range of passing with cross field switches to Mantato on the left wing. He also ate up the ground, making runs in behind the City backline but also tracking back with a number of good tackles in midfield.

James Scanlon – 6 – Had a couple of long range efforts which he couldn’t keep down but largely didn’t get involved as much as you would want and ran down too many blind alleys on the rare occasions he did.

Jack Fletcher – 7 – Couldn’t find the space in the final third in the first half but improved in the second half as he linked well with Mather and had a few good chances on goal.

Sam Mather – 6.5 – Came alive more in the second half and linked well with Jack Fletcher around the box but often was missing the final finish.

Chido Obi – 7 – A match of moments for Obi, not seeing much of the ball but made it count when he did. A perfectly taken goal, he pressed well to win the ball initially before lifting the ball over the keeper for a nice finish.

Substitutes

Shea Lacey – 7 – A return from injury but you wouldn’t have known it as he immediately was up to speed. Almost scored with a good snapshot and caused a lot of trouble down the right wing with his dribbling which ultimately led to the winner.

Amir Ibragimov – 7 – On the pitch for just 15 minutes but came up big with the match winner, finishing from close range.

Gabriele Biancheri – N/A – Not on the pitch long enough to make an impact.

James Overy – N/A – Not on the pitch long enough to make an impact.
