United “on the brink” of game-changing €20m signing after beating CL club in red-hot race for 23-yo star – report

Manchester United appear to be on the verge of solving their goalkeeping woes following a fresh breakthrough in negotiations over Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Senne Lammens.

Last night, Man United suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Grimsby Town, losing 12-11 on penalties after drawing 2-2 in normal time.

Despite fielding a strong side, Ruben Amorim’s men largely underperformed throughout the clash.

But while the team was able to ramp up its attacking efforts to overcome a two-goal deficit, it was a shambolic goalkeeping display by Andre Onana that resulted in United being placed in such a dire position in the first place.

With Altay Bayindir also struggling, it seems as if United have no in-house solution to their goalkeeping dilemma. Still, the transfer market appears to be offering an ideal fix.

The link with Lammens

For much of the ongoing transfer window, United have been linked with Antwerp’s Lammens.

Last weekend, The Peoples Person relayed that United were engaged in face-to-face talks with Lammens’ representatives in an effort to get a deal over the line.

Talks appear to have progressed since then. Two days ago, it was reported that Galatasaray entered the race for the goalkeeper, allegedly offering him a superior financial package to United.

Clearly, United are refusing to take this lying down, should a fresh update prove correct.

Negotiations enter final stretch

“Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens for a fee of around €20m,” CaughtOffside reported this morning.

“CaughtOffside have consulted multiple sources close to the deal and it seems Man Utd are closing in on an agreement with Antwerp.”

“The Red Devils initially made a bid in the region of €17m for Lammens, but further talks have seen them improve the overall package to closer to €20m,” the article continued, indicating United’s active attempts to outprice Galatasaray and other potential rivals, including Inter Milan.

“‘A full agreement is now within reach,” one source said. This was confirmed by another, who said: ‘United are on the brink of securing this deal. Negotiations have entered the final stretch,’” the report concluded.

With the transfer window set to close on September 1, United will need to act fast if they hope to sign Lammens and finally overcome their ongoing goalkeeping nightmare.
