United fans in no doubt who will be surprise package of 2025/2026 season

Manchester United fans have had their say on who will be the surprise package of the 2025/2026 season.

Mixed start

The Red Devils sit on a disappointing one point from their opening two matches but played very well in defeat to Arsenal.

They started the match well versus Fulham but old bad habits creeped in as they could only secure a draw at Craven Cottage.

United fans will naturally look to the new attacking signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to improve but they will also hope that a surprise package can emerge this season to help the team.

The Peoples Person held a poll asking “which star will be the surprise package of the 2025/2026 season?”, and the results are now in.

Clear choice

42% of respondents chose Mason Mount as the player who will have a breakout season.

The England international had a terrible first two seasons at Old Trafford due to injury but he impressed in the final two months of last season.

He has also continued to play well, having enjoyed a complete pre-season and starting United’s opening games this season.

Ruben Amorim has always been very vocal in his praise of Mount and if he can stay fit, he will surely play a key role this season.

Joshua Zirkzee

In second place, 20% of readers felt that the Dutchman Zirkzee would be the surprise package of the season.

The former Bologna forward had a mixed first season with some real highs and lows.

Nonetheless, he impressed numerous fans with his smart skills and strong build up play and many supporters are keen to see how he will link up with the new attacking trio once he is fully fit.

Someone else

Fans were not too impressed with the other options in the poll as 18% felt that someone else who was not on the list of six players would be the surprise package.

Kobbie Mainoo

Just 13% felt that Mainoo would be the surprise package of the season.

There were rumours yesterday that the England international is unhappy with his lack of game time and is considering a move away from Old Trafford.

The breakout star of the 2023-2024 season is clearly not Ruben Amorim’s priority right now and has a lot of work to do if he is to become a crucial part of the Portuguese’s plans.

Surprise names

Only 3% felt that Andre Onana could turn around his poor season last year.

The Cameroonian has failed to start either of United’s opening games and with the likely arrival of Belgian keeper Senne Lammens, his future is even more in doubt.

Another 3% backed Manuel Ugarte to be a surprise package this season after a largely disappointing first season at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately the Uruguayan has failed to impress both times he has come off the bench this season and will need to improve dramatically in the coming weeks.

Finally, only 1% of respondents believed Casemiro could return to the form that he showed in his first season in 2022-2023.

He has started both games of the season with Bruno Fernandes in the midfield pivot but fans remain skeptical that the Brazilian can cope with the physical demands of a Premier League season at 33-years-old.
